As spring fades into summer’s fierce heat, the threat of a gentle lethargy looms over our everyday lives. To keep from being swallowed by the season’s torpor, our team dug up the 20 freshest indie cuts sharp enough to keep your eardrums alert clear through to fall.
This new selection is a real melting pot of genres and generations. We’re tipping our hats to the new effort from Australia’s prolific Pond, the long-awaited return of Scandinavia’s Iceage, and the seriously promising Violet Grohl (a surname you might just recognize).
The spotlight of the season goes to Dublin’s Gurriers. The outfit is fast becoming tomorrow’s post-punk reference point, serving up a blistering preview of their second album, Nobody’s Coming to Save You, out September 25 via PIAS. A jolt of raw, direct, singular energy that already stands proudly alongside Fontaines D.C., The Murder Capital and Kneecap.
We hope this batch soundtracks your sleepless nights and sun-soaked road trips. Keep the radar on until September — the fall lineup is already shaping up to be a big one.
