As autumn quietly takes its bow, winter drapes its frosty coat over our shoulders, sketching the outline of an inevitable hibernation. Ever the good Samaritan and faithful servant to our readers, our team has picked out 20 indie sounds of the moment to shake you out of the lethargy nature keeps trying to impose.
This season, the music world sheds its skin without losing any of its shine, welcoming back giants of the scene while making room for rising acts — think the legendary The Cure, the crowning moment for Bryan Magic Tears, or the arrival of the long-awaited debut from London’s High Vis.
It’s with real joy and wonder that we’re honoring one of the finest dandies folk rock has ever produced this season: the irreplaceable and gifted Josh Tillman, aka Father John Misty, who unveils his sixth album Mahashmashana, plunging us into a dreamlike, critical yet sincere world only he holds the key to.
We hope this playlist accompanies your most beautiful winter evenings, from cozy comfort to bottomless daydreaming. Stay tuned — our discoveries for the new year are already looking vibrant. Happy New Year 2025 to all!
