Mother Nature had been developing a growing passion for the rain dance, but she seems to have tired of it quickly enough, making way for the first blazing rays of a summer that really made us beg this year. As ever, a new season means a new playlist: 20 fresh, unapologetically subjective indie gems, carefully picked by our editors to walk you through the change of course.
This summer the scene is catching fire, powered by big names and by young talents blooming with real flair — the phoenix Lenny Kravitz, Australia’s psych crew Pond, and the intoxicating duo King Hannah.
No surprise, and with deep admiration, this season’s spotlight goes to one of the most promising outfits of its generation: Ireland’s Fontaines D.C. The quintet has announced its fourth album, ROMANCE, for August 23, following SKINTY FIA, the record that made them unmissable. A tall order, and one that matches the expectations of a fanbase now firmly established.
On our end, we hope this playlist becomes your most faithful companion for naps in the shade of the palm trees and nights under a star-filled sky. See you in September for a new selection. Have a great summer, everyone!
