El Perro — Parker Griggs’ New Side Project

An absolute thunderbolt has hit the international psychedelic rock scene with the low-profile yet unexpected announcement of Parker Griggs’ new side project. The guitar hero and mastermind behind the famous band Radio Moscow is stepping out of his comfort zone to expand his artistry in a brand-new, Spanish-canine-friendly outfit: El Perro.

Eager to create something fresh following his tour for the album New Beginnings, the frontman decided in late 2019 to assemble a new lineup—expanding from a power trio to a quintet. He is joined by his current drummer Paul Marrone, bassist Shawn Davis, guitarist Holland Redd, and percussionist Lonnie Blanton.

From the very first notes, the guitarist’s fans will feel right at home. This new project seamlessly follows in the footsteps of its predecessor, featuring a hyperactive wah-wah pedal, warm and mystical vocals, and riffs as powerful as they are explosive.

Beyond these similarities, El Perro explores new sonic textures by offering a more sophisticated instrumentation. The addition of a second guitar and a percussionist allows them to lean into groovier, Latin-infused vibes. While the band draws on the rock elements that made their name, they now lean closer to a psychedelic funk-rock style in the pure tradition of Funkadelic.

Their first album, titled Hair Off, was released in early 2022. We will just have to patiently wait for this new psychedelic formula to grace us with a European tour. Stay tuned!
